The challenge

Customers had to be able to arrange as much as possible themselves and have insight into everything: their consumption and yield, but also changing their details or buying a home battery or extra solar panels. All in one app.

Anyone renting panels also wants to see that the choice was right. Here, yield isn’t a technical statistic but the answer to whether the bill comes out lower.

The approach

The app combines smart-meter data with the real-time output of the solar panels. For a new feature, we built a live socket connection that shows all the energy flows in the home, with Lottie animations that show which way the energy is going.

To keep the lines short, the team regularly worked from Zelfstroom’s office in Den Bosch.

The result

A customer app that shows how a sustainable investment pays off: charts of peak output, comparisons with consumption and a clear view of savings.

For anyone renting panels, that is the heart of it. Yield isn’t a technical statistic here but the answer to whether the bill comes out lower — and that answer is now in the app instead of on an annual statement.

With the live socket connection, customers see the energy flows in their home in real time, with animations showing which way the energy is going. They also arrange their own affairs: changing their details, or buying a home battery or extra solar panels.
