A platform for smarter, hybrid working.

The partnership started close to home. Iotspot was in the same building as Apperium, and one Thursday afternoon, five minutes before the end of the working day, its owner walked into our office: he had noticed there were app developers in the building. We took over the existing app, and what started with a few sprints grew into a partnership lasting years.

With the app, staff book desks, schedule meeting rooms and share ideas with colleagues: people, spaces and data in one overview.

Two separate features,

the 3D floor plan and the data,

became one experience.

The challenge

For Iotspot 3.0, the 3D office floor plans and the underlying data had to come together. Until then they had been two separate features, and joining them into one clear interface was a serious design challenge.

A floor plan shows where something is; the data shows how it is used. As long as the two stood apart, employees had to make the connection themselves — exactly the work you expect an app to take over.

The approach

It took some twenty iterations and a month of testing and validation to get it right.

The app also got a completely renewed visual experience: a more modern interface, improved 3D floor plans, smoother interactions when booking spaces, shorter loading times and a feature for sending reports straight from the app to the support system.

The result

Iotspot 3.0 changed the app fundamentally: one interface where floor plan, data and bookings come together, with a noticeably smoother user experience.

That it took some twenty iterations and a month of testing says most about the kind of problem it was. Bringing floor plan and data together only succeeded once employees no longer had to make the connection themselves.

That way the platform supports exactly what it is meant for: organisations making the move to flexible, hybrid working, who need to tie people, spaces and data together to do it.

From an unexpected visit to Iotspot 3.0.

What began with a few sprints on an inherited app grew into a partnership lasting years. That is a result too: not every new version has to be a fresh start.

IoTSpot is a smart workspace platform that helps modern offices work more efficiently and productively. The mobile app was developed in close collaboration with Apperium and lets employees easily book desks, schedule meeting rooms and share ideas with colleagues. It connects people, spaces and data in one clear platform and supports organisations in the move to flexible, hybrid working.

Apperium not only built the original app but is also responsible for its ongoing development. With the release of IoTSpot 3.0 the app got a completely renewed visual experience, with a more modern interface, improved 3D office floor plans and smoother interactions for booking spaces. The update introduces a streamlined design, shorter loading times and higher performance for a noticeably smoother user experience — including bug fixes and a built-in feature for sending reports straight from the app to the support system.
