Smarter charging, for businesses and individuals.

Current was founded with a single mission: to manage the growing electricity use of electric cars more intelligently. The platform helps both businesses with a fleet and private drivers charge more efficiently and more cheaply.

Current is a design case: we designed the app from the first concept to the complete user experience, with sustainability, convenience and insight into energy use as the starting points.

Charging should become

not only simpler,

but cheaper too.

The challenge

Charging touches planning, cost and energy use all at once. The task was to capture that in one clear experience, so users always know what their charging sessions are doing and what they cost.

What’s more, a fleet manager and a private driver look at the same charging session very differently. One manages costs across dozens of cars; the other wants to know whether the car will be full tomorrow morning. Both had to be able to use the same app.

The approach

Apperium took full responsibility for the design, from the first concept to the finished user experience. A clear interface, data visualisations and intuitive controls give users command of their charging.

The concept also responds to hybrid working: through a link with Microsoft Teams, charging fits into employees’ working week instead of sitting apart from it.

The result

Charging went from a separate chore to part of the working week. In one overview, users see what a session costs, how much energy goes into it and how that compares with earlier sessions — information that used to be scattered across systems and invoices.

The design serves two very different users from the same app. The fleet manager steers on costs across an entire fleet; the individual driver wants to know whether the car will be full tomorrow morning. Both get their answer without one getting in the other’s way.

The Microsoft Teams integration ties charging to people's calendars instead of leaving it as a separate errand: technology and sustainability in one streamlined experience that can be tracked and accounted for.

Charging that moves with the way people work.

That is why the design starts not at the charging point but in the user’s calendar. If you know when a car will be parked, you also know when charging costs least.

Efficient EV charging
