Recording openings, without paper.

An opening is a recess left in a wall or floor for pipes and cables. Exactly where each one goes has to mean the same thing on site as it does in the office.

Together with D&D Applicaties we built a mobile app for it, made for the people who record it on location: installers and construction workers who want to work fast, without paper.

One overview per project,

one source for everyone,

from building site to office.

The challenge

On the building site, information got scattered across notes, forms and loose photos. That made follow-up in the office slow and error-prone.

The problem was rarely one missing detail, but the distance between them: a photo without a location, a form without a photo, a note that ended up on the wrong floor. Only back at the office did it become clear what was missing.

The approach

The app is made for daily use on location: fast, intuitive and with a fixed sequence that guides the user through every step. Place a marker, enter the floor and room number, take a photo and move on. Because the process is always the same, nothing gets skipped.

A construction worker opens the app on location, picks the right project from a list and navigates to the matching floor plan. The registration happens on the drawing itself, not on a form that has to be matched to it later.

The result

All information is stored straight away in the right position on the drawing, ready for the office to follow up. Errors go down, follow-up goes faster and every project has one clear, structured overview.

The difference lies in the distance that disappears. A photo now belongs to a location, a note to a floor, a registration to a project — captured in the moment instead of reconstructed afterwards in the office.

Field work and office now work from the same source. At handover the data is complete, without paper, delays or miscommunication.

Practical, precise and made for the job.

The app owes its shape to the building site, not the desk: every step in the flow is there because it is needed on location, and the steps that weren’t, aren’t.

Accurate opening registration on site

Accurate opening registration on site

To support accurate recording of openings on the building site, we developed a dedicated mobile app together with D&D Applicaties. No more handwritten forms or separate photo uploads. Users select a project, mark the right location on the floor plan, add photos and fill in the required fields. All data is captured digitally and automatically linked to the right spot.

The app is designed for daily use on location. It works quickly and intuitively, with a clear flow that guides the user through every step: place a marker, enter the floor and room number, add a photo and move on. Because the process is consistent, nothing gets skipped and the data is complete at handover.

This approach brings field work and office processes better into line. Everyone works from the same source, errors are reduced and follow-up becomes faster and more efficient. Instead of scattered notes and images, every project has one clear, structured overview, exactly as D&D intended: practical, precise and made for the job.

A construction worker opens the app on site, picks the right project from a listand navigates to the relevant floor plan. They place a marker where the opening is needed, fill in location details such as floor and room number, and take a photo of the spot. All of it is saved immediately and tied to the right position on the drawing, ready for the office to follow up — with no paper, no delays and no miscommunication.
